Here's a sampling of the initiatives we've helped get started over the years:

Mount Waddington Community Transit

In September 2007 the Mount Waddington Health Network was the driving force behind the development of a sustainable transportation system for the region. BC Transit, along with the Regional District of Mount Waddington manage the system, and North Island Community Services are the operators.

Extreme Weather Shelter pilot project

In partnership with the Salvation Army and Island Health, the Mount Waddington Health Network has provided 3 year enhanced funding to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Shelter. This made it possible for the Extreme Weather Shelter to have clients seeking refuge from inclement weather receive on-site medical assessments, thus ensuring the safety and well being of all. This pilot finishes in March 2016.

Withdrawal Management Beds Renovations

In 2015, the Mount Waddington Health Network approved a grant to the North Island Crisis & Counselling Centre Society for the cost of renovations to their facility. These renovations allowed for an increased number of beds, living space, etc. so that our region could have ongoing withdrawal management services through Island Health. The official opening of the 5 new withdrawal beds was held January 21, as part of the Addictions Recovery Services Planning Committee's annual "report back to the community" luncheon.
